Young people who apply for voluntary military service receive extra points for higher education admissions. With one year of service, you can earn up to 64 points, which can be quite decisive for an admission.
In the middle of the summer, it was revealed that the national army will start a new form of service from September: this is voluntary military service. Those who like it during the six-month training can stay on as a contract employee, it was said in the M1 News.
Since 2017, the number of the National Guard has been continuously increasing, along with the number of volunteers. In 2010, 17 volunteer reserve soldiers strengthened the Hungarian army. This number has now exceeded 11 thousand.

"The Hungarian Defense Force has created a new form of service, this is voluntary military service, the popularity of which, thank God, is unbroken," said Major Sándor Gárdonyi of the Military Administration and Central Registry Command of the Hungarian Defense Force.
Therefore, the Hungarian Armed Forces will start another voluntary training from September 15. Now for those young people who postpone the start of their higher education studies for a year, or even if only for a short time, but want to try themselves in the military career. After the service, applicants gain not only military knowledge, but also additional points that can be used for admission to higher education.
"With the support of the government, we were able to resolve that those young people who want to pursue higher studies are preparing for universities, but before that they undertake to complete a military service, for 6 to 12 months, they can gain up to 64 extra points, the result of the entrance exam regarding," said Minister of Defense Tibor Benkő.
In the currently valid admission system, students can earn a total of 100 extra points. Most are for the advanced level graduation: 50 points per exam subject.
Applicants with a language test certificate also receive extra points. An intermediate level language exam means 28 and a higher level 40 extra points.
These are now supplemented by the voluntary military service of young people. After half a year of military training, 32 plus points will be awarded for admission to higher education, while after one year of service it will be double, 64 points.
As in the past, the voluntary military service is now a temporary service, but it is also possible for young people to be employed in the national defense after training.
