It is a serious attack on Hungary's sovereignty that Ukraine turned to the European Commission regarding the Hungarian-Russian long-term gas supply contract signed a few days ago, Péter Szijjártó's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade stated in a statement in Prague.

"To be honest, we didn't really care what Ukraine or what anyone else thinks about this long-term gas deal. After all, the security of Hungary's energy supply must be guaranteed by the government, and no one has anything to do with how we do this," emphasized the head of the ministry after the Hungarian-Czech government summit.

Péter Szijjártó emphasized that this is a question of sovereignty, and also pointed out that Hungary is not the only one in Europe that has concluded a similar contract with Russia. The government was interested in good-neighborly relations, which is why it allowed Ukrainian soldiers to Hungary for medical treatment, and therefore vacationed thousands of Ukrainian children whose parents were involved in the fighting, he underlined.

"Compared to this, what the Ukrainians did is a very rude stab in the back"

he said.

According to Péter Szijjártó, the main thing is to be able to heat the homes of the Hungarian people in winter, and for the industry to be functional, and for this, natural gas is needed, which Hungary buys primarily from Russia, "at a good price, safely and reliably".

Finally, he called the suggestion that the controversial language law was passed in Kyiv because Russia attacked Ukraine "obviously nonsense." As he said, the Transcarpathian Hungarians cannot do anything about the conflict Ukraine has with the Russians, so it would be good if they were left out of this matter.

"Despite the promises, the nice words, the seemingly constructive negotiations, Hungarian minority rights are being pushed back step by step. However, to connect this with other conflicts of Ukrainians is nonsense"

he declared.

Orbán: Ukraine has nothing to do with the Hungarian-Russian gas contract

The Hungarian-Russian gas contract is a matter that Ukraine has nothing to do with, it is a matter of Hungarian sovereignty, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated on Wednesday in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic.

In response to a question at a joint press conference with his Czech counterpart, Andrej Babis, the prime minister said:

Hungary is a sovereign country, we buy energy and gas from whoever we want. "Only we decide which route this energy will take to Hungary"

he pointed out.

He said: when choosing among possible routes, there is only one consideration, which one guarantees the greatest safety. "We deliver where we can deliver the safest, and no one can interfere with that," he added.

Viktor Orbán highlighted:

"we wish the Ukrainians to deal with their own problems, but leave us out of it".
