Parents will receive a tax refund of about HUF 600 billion, tax refunds will also be given to entrepreneurs with children, farmers, sole proprietors and primary producers, the refund may affect approximately 1.9 million individuals - said Norbert Izer, responsible for tax affairs at the Ministry of Finance Secretary of State in an interview with the Observer.
Norbert Izer added that most of the affected parents can access their personal income tax paid in 2021 by February 15, 2022. Practically all parents with minor children benefit from the refund, and it also goes to expectant mothers and their spouses. Pregnancy also entitles you to the family discount and tax refund from the 91st day of conception.
The range of beneficiaries is wide, as the amount in question is given to both parents until the end of secondary school. Basically, they can get this year's sja back for children who are compulsory school age, which lasts until they reach the age of 16. If the young person is in secondary school, this period is important. In this case, the upper age limit is 20 years. The discount applies until the end of the academic year in which the child turns 20, i.e. the end of May or June. If you require special education, the upper age limit is 23 years.
All parents, regardless of whether they are married or in a civil partnership, are entitled to a refund if they are raising their own biological child in their household. If it is not their own child, but they are married, then both parents are also entitled to the discount. If they have been living together as partners for a long time and the partner is also entitled to the family allowance, they can also receive the tax refund. If the parents are divorced, the person raising the child is entitled to the discount; if, after the divorce, they are raised 50-50, then the family allowance will also be shared, and the family tax refund will be paid in full to both parents, explained the state secretary.
Norbert Izer also mentioned that
most parents will not have to do anything, the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) will automatically deliver the amount by February 15 of next year.
The vast majority get their money without any kind of administration: they are the ones who receive family allowance and typically live on wages and salaries. The number of those affected is quite large, as approximately one million parents currently receive family allowance. These data are handed over to NAV by the Hungarian State Treasury. In this way, the refund will arrive as simply as possible, in exactly the same way as the family allowance, by February 15 of next year. The office will transfer the return tax to the person whose bank account it goes to, and the person to whom the postman takes it out will also receive the refund in cash.
The Hungarian tax refund is the most favorable tax measure for the widest range of families in the EU, as the amount is returned not only to the parent who receives the family allowance, but also to those who are also entitled to benefits - including, for example, the spouse. In an international comparison, the Hungarian family tax refund is unique not only in this, but also in the ease of use, he emphasized.
