Party leader Krisztián Forró spoke to Magyar Hírlap about the creation of the Alliance and the settlement of past grievances. Details from the interview.

- What was the key argument or compromise with which, after many years of delay, it was finally possible to bridge the differences and found the Alliance Hungarian party?
– In 2020, Hungarian politics in the highlands reached a crossroads. The results of the last parliamentary election brought the representatives of the parties that had previously politicized separately and even against each other to the negotiating table. The Slovak electoral law does not take into account the numerical ratio of the Hungarian community, and the Hungarian voters in the highlands also showed that they do not want to choose between two lists. In order for the tripartite negotiations on the unification process to start and end successfully, it was also necessary for the politicians who took over the leadership of the parties after the reforms to take responsibility for the future of the Hungarian community living here, for the catch-up of the regions they live in.

- Over the years, many thousands of Hungarian votes from the highlands were lost because their chosen party did not reach the parliamentary threshold.
Even now, the party hovers around five percent, how will they convince the Hungarians that their votes are safe this time? – With a lot of work, a good program and telling our voters and community representatives not only what we want to achieve, but also how. In addition to the fact that many thousands of Hungarian votes were lost, many thousands of such votes strengthened the Slovak parties, which took advantage of our division.

After a year and a half, it is clear that these parties considered the acquisition of the mentioned votes important, not the representation of the interests of the community members. The attic is full of promises, but the current government cannot show concrete results. Downsizing took place instead of progress. We could mention the attacks on the Minority Cultural Fund, the abolition of the previously established nationalities departments in the Ministry of Culture and Education, the braking and stopping of infrastructure development planned in the southern and eastern regions.

People see all of this and experience it first hand.

- Until now, their attitude towards the current Budapest government has been a sticking point between the various Hungarian parties.
These were opposing positions that cannot be shared. So which will prevail in the new party's relations with the motherland? – The predecessor parties united in the Alliance agree that the unified party must strive to maintain a good partnership with the current Hungarian government. As part of the Hungarian nation, Hungarians from the highlands are also interested in the realization of cross-border national political aspirations. However, we consider our primary task, the reason why the unit itself was created, to find solutions to the problems of the Hungarians living here.
