The expert panel reviewing the placement of works in public spaces in Székelyudvarhely did not agree with the idea that the György Csanády statue ordered by Balázs Ferenc Vegyeskar and their supporters should be placed in the courtyard of the Haáz Rezső Museum. The initiators are looking for a new location to commemorate the author of the Székely national anthem.
About three years ago, the Balázs Ferenc Vegyeskar took the initiative to erect a statue in Székelyudvarhely to György Csanády, an illustrious native of the settlement, the author of the Székely national anthem. They were joined by members of the historical order of chivalry, representatives of the Free People's Party (POL), the Transylvanian Hungarian National Council, the Székely National Council and several other NGOs.
At first, they envisioned a suitable location in Zöld utca, but the residents did not approve it, as they were afraid of the later noisemakers. Finally, a street was named after the author on Szél-domb, but the initiators of erecting the statue did not abandon their plans for the memorial. They also hoped that, in the meantime, they would create new spaces in the city where the statue could be placed, but in the end this seemed to drag on. Therefore, they proposed to the city administration that the monument could be placed in the courtyard of the Haáz Rezső Museum.
Although the commissioned artists from Székelyudvarhely started to create the statue, unfortunately the placement of it in the courtyard of the Haáz Rezső Museum was unfavorably reviewed by the specialized authority entrusted with it, consisting of artists among others - we learned from Edit Bíró, choir president of the Balázs Ferenc Vegyeskar. He pointed out that it was said at the meeting organized for this purpose that instead of the traditional bust, they would rather support the placement of contemporary works and installations.
Edit Bíró also received a promise that perhaps the work they envisioned could be placed in a neighborhood that will be built later. However, he did not settle for this, rather he will initiate negotiations with the leaders of the historical churches, hoping that they will provide a suitable church area for the display of the statue. However, time is running out, since on the one hand the statue is already being made, and on the other hand, next May, on the centenary of the presentation of the Székely hymn, they want to commemorate the author in a worthy place.
