At the initiative of the opposition, the National Assembly changed the procedure of the national referendum and some election-related laws.

Tímea Szabó (Párbeszéd) on the amendment of the national referendum procedure was unanimously accepted by the Parliament with 183 yes votes. The law abolished the restriction that national referendums cannot be held within 41 days before and after the parliamentary, European parliament and local government elections.

The representative justified the amendment by making the election process more cost-effective, given that parliamentary elections and several referendums are expected in 2022.

the independent János Volner , amending the laws on certain election subjects , was adopted by the parliament with 134 yes votes and 49 no votes. The law is related to Tímea Szabó's proposal, it ensures the practical and technical conditions for the national referendum to be held on the same day as the parliamentary election.

It stipulates that if several elections are to be held on the same day, they must be conducted in one joint procedure.
