The preparatory phase of the renovation works of the buildings belonging to the Archdiocese of Veszprém has been going on for several months, and at the same time as the surveys, wall research and archaeological excavations were also started - it can be read on the Archdiocese's website.

Administration, during a trial excavation, unearthed a metal-topped glass vessel containing gold coins from below the surface (from a depth of 30 centimeters) during the investigation of the static conditions

The coins were transported to Budapest for examination. Thanks to this, it became clear that it was not a find of archaeological age. Based on the opinion of numismatic experts, the coins can be classified as weight gold , since their collection may have lasted from the 1890s to the 1930s. The find does not belong to the archaeological and cultural assets either, but nevertheless it must have an extraordinary history.

When, for what purpose and who could actually hide the gold coins? This is what they are trying to find out. The small jar hides 105 gold coins, the earliest of which dates from the 1810s, and the latest of which bears the year 1930. The collection of coins found will be housed in one of the galleries of the new Archbishop's Museum and Treasury, which will be built as part of the project.
