As of February 1, law professor László Trócsányi, former justice minister, is the rector of the Károli Gáspár Reformed University, the Communication Service of the Hungarian Reformed Church told MTI.

According to the information, László Trócsányi accepted his appointment as rector from President János Áder at the Sándor Palace on Monday.
His mandate runs until January 31, 2027. On January 5, the senate of the Károli Gáspár Reformed University announced that the Synod of the Hungarian Reformed Church and its pastoral president, Zoltán Balog, initiated the appointment of László Trócsányi as rector to the president of the republic.

László Trócsányi was Hungary's Minister of Justice between 2014 and 2019, and since 2019 he has been a Fidesz member of the European Parliament.

László Trócsányi told the Reformed Newspaper: "the church, as the depository of the word, teaches the divine word. But the university also teaches: human speech, science, discipline. In the case of a church university, we can therefore speak of a double bond. You have to take into account where it comes from, whose name it bears, and on the other hand, the university universitas, which symbolizes universality and openness".

"Károli Gáspár Református University, as a prominent higher education institution, has a great responsibility: it must present, represent and teach its Christian spirit and the whole of the universitas"
