Today is the commemoration day for the victims of communist dictatorships, which was approved by the National Assembly on June 13, 2000. According to this, every year on February 25, the victims of communism are commemorated in secondary education institutions. There will be several commemorations, two of which we will now highlight.

The Rákóczi Association, in cooperation with the Office of the Parliament and the National Remembrance Committee, will commemorate the victims of communism at the National Martyrs' Memorial next to Kossuth Square on Friday, February 25 at 10:00 a.m. with the participation of hundreds of high school students from Budapest.

In addition to the participating students from Budapest, hundreds of students from secondary schools in the Carpathian Basin will join the online broadcast as part of lessons.

László Kövér, the President of the Parliament, will give a commemorative speech at the event. The event ends with a wreath laying at 10:45.

The Memorial of the National Martyrs was restored in the fall of 2019 in memory of those who became martyrs and victims for professing their Hungarianness. Since 2020, the Rákóczi Association has been organizing its commemoration with the participation of young people here on the Memorial Day of the Victims of Communism.

The House of Terror Museum celebrated the 20th anniversary of its opening yesterday. A little more than a decade after the fall of communism, a museum was created in Hungary that commemorates the victims of the arrow and communist terror, names the perpetrators by their names and presents the anti-human acts of the total dictatorships of the 20th century.

On Remembrance Day for the Victims of Communism, i.e. today, there is an opportunity to light a candle at the Wall of Heroes without protocol all day, and the Museum can be visited for free.
