In the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, the Memorial of National Unity was inaugurated in Máriapócs and the twinning agreement between Máriapócs and Csíkszereda was signed.

A decisive election is coming up in April, where decisions must be made not simply about social or economic visions, but about the issue of peace and security or warfare - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stated in Máriapócs in connection with the ceremony, and also assured all citizens of Máriapócs and Csíkszereda of the respect of the Hungarian government.

According to him, being a sibling is special, and being the parents of siblings is even more so. He emphasized that being a brother means love, affection and strength, and when brothers work together, the mountains turn to gold, and expressed hope that the agreement will bring this brotherly love and affection to the residents of both settlements.

He reminded that more than a thousand years ago, our King St. Stephen dedicated the country to the Virgin Mary, and since then the two settlements have been practicing Christian traditions with worldwide recognition, in deeds and not just in words. The minister encouraged all Hungarians living in Transylvania to take part in the election, because the issue of peace and security or war must be decided, and the left wing must be prevented from taking the country to war.

He reminded that voters are expected from tomorrow in Bucharest, Csíksereda and Cluj until April 2. At the same time, he thanked the Romanian government for making the voting smooth and that the border crossings will be open for this period.

Finally, Péter Szijjártó declared that freedom is the most important national value, which, according to him, means that we can freely decide our destiny. In the past thirty-two years, the country was only able to be strong when it did not bow to external political or economic pressure, he declared.

According to Kelemen Hunor, Deputy Prime Minister of Romania, when two places of pilgrimage are connected in this way, one tends to think that our nation, and especially the Hungarian community in Transylvania, has been on a spiritual and spiritual pilgrimage for more than 100 years. He emphasized that for thirty-two years, however, we have been able to persistently and patiently build the togetherness that extends beyond national borders.

We don't know what the future holds, but this togetherness must be preserved, and that requires freedom. However, the monuments should not belong to the past, but to the present and the future, he added.

At the same time, he thanked the Hungarian government for the paradigm shift that has taken place in national politics over the past twelve years, and explained that we need courage in the Carpathian Basin in order to continue building.

At the end of the event, the mayor of Csíkszereda, Bertalan Papp, Máriapócs and Attila Korodi signed the document symbolizing the sister settlement agreement of the two cities, which was authenticated by Péter Szijjártó and Kelemen Hunor as witnesses. At the ceremony, those present could listen to the performance of opera singer Levente Molnár. Fülöp Kocsis, Archbishop-Metropolitan of Hajdúdorog Archdiocese, blessed the Memorial of National Unity.
