Either half of Europe is on Putin's side, or they are lying about Hungary again. Our country has no interest in this war, on anyone's side.

Europe is preparing for a decisive battle in the battle against itself. When our grandchildren draw the European Union at their high school graduation, it is possible that their nimble fingers will just rain down the definition of the oil embargo on the pixel borders that have become completely invisible by then: we call the EU oil embargo the situation when 26 states pretend that they want a Russian oil embargo, but unfortunately the Hungarians vetoed it. .

This is where (and many other hypocritical lies) originates, dear Commission, the fear of Europe's former world powers, later central powers, and then not quite self-powers, that Hungary is "pro-Russian". Our grandchildren will tell. Maybe.

"For twelve years, the EU left Orbán to destroy democracy and the rule of law in his country. Now he's getting the bill: Orbán is on Putin's side," German Social Democrat EP Vice-President Katarina Barley recently tweeted, referring to Hungary's "acceptance of Putin's payment system." This is where the pro-Putin narrative shoots itself in the foot. Ms. Barley is a representative of the German Social Democrats, who rule Germany, and Germany, ruled by the Social Democrats, pays for gas in exactly the same way as we do: they send euros to Gazprombank, which miraculously turns into rubles there, has a beneficial effect on the exchange rate, and continues its journey to Gazprom Export.

All European countries that currently buy gas from Gazprom are doing the same, of course. So either half of Europe is on Putin's side, or they are lying about Hungary again, and they are the ones doing the same thing as him.

Viktor Orbán's pro-Russian support for years is based on just such lies - while during the twelve years of the Hungarian civil government, no one has ever pointed out to the Orbáns how exactly the Hungarian-Russian economic cooperation went to the detriment of our EU and NATO orientation. Because it didn't work.

During the opening to the east, Hungary carefully respected the hunting grounds of the western federal systems. It is a mystery why people who even know they are lying lie about this morning, night and night - that it is simply lazy, and I should not even quote pro-Russian journalist colleagues who are incompetent in both Hungarian and Russian affairs.

I don't even understand how anyone - whether from the outside or from the inside - can label as pro-Russian a country that could not detect any Hungarian benefit in Russia's war in Ukraine, even if you look under a microscope.

Because it is not good for us at all, for nothing. Let's leave the delirium and accusations about the recapture of Transcarpathia. Its sincere supporters were all outside at the pro-Russian demonstration, that's how many pro-Russians there are in the country - more pleasant sandblasting for them.

Everyone else - be it the mother-in-law or a civilian Hungarian - sees exactly that the Russo-Ukrainian war is a process that keeps Central Europe in a constant, direct threat of war, that crashes the food market, that depresses the forint, from which even the most sane European policy gas and oil prices would explode, which would inevitably drive a wedge between Hungary and Poland. The longer this goes on, the worse it is, so that in the end, no matter how much anyone wins or loses, they will hate us for it. The Russians because of the sanctions, the Ukrainians because we didn't do irrational craziness at their request.

Our country has zero interest in this war.

What Hungary is doing is only that it does not get involved in issues that are far beyond its control - instead, it regrets as best it can, and while voting on sanctions, it tries to save from the heat of sanctioning those that it would be dying to sanction. Because no, at the end of the day, there is no life here and now without Russian gas and Russian oil, and if Europe cuts itself off, Ukraine will have nowhere to aspire.

How dare anyone, when the war does not serve any purpose except for a narrow Russian, Ukrainian and possibly American national security general guard, only kills people uselessly and causes an economic crisis, a loyal NATO that votes for sanctions, moans about humanitarian burdens - an allied country pro-Russian?

Barbarism, senselessness, nihil. Anyone who brings his country even an inch closer to the Russia-American superpower saber-rattling taking place in Ukraine, formed in response to Russian aggression, who sacrifices anything for the sake of concrete nothing in the impasse of this war leading nowhere, who escalates without interest, is not the embodiment of morality, but a geopolitical illiterate. who knows nothing about the national interest. Nothing.

On behalf of many, I call out the pro-Russian people. He who is in favor of peace and does not allow himself to be drawn into any kind of war is not an accomplice of the aggressor, but of his own people. If we were China, Brazil, Pakistan, India, and we were secretly benefiting from the senseless war, we would rightfully be pro-Russian.

But in this way, looking into the endless deep abyss, swallowing so much damage, under market, political and humanitarian pressure, maybe Ms. Barley and the others should try something else. Come on, let Xi Jinping become Xi Jinping, let them challenge India with a big fist, attack Saudi Arabia and Brazil if they dare. Rather than knocking down the dust of more and more dysfunctional sanctions on a country of ten million people.

It's enough. Get the jerk stick out of here. And accept that Hungary has one thing to do: to add ninety-three thousand square kilometers to the part of the world where there is peace, and to keep it there. And if Russia becomes pro-peace, then maybe we will be pro-Russian again. But even then, only as much as we were - and as much as the rest of Europe should have been long ago.
