The chairman of the Minnesota Republican Party recently apologized for the campaign video presented at the last state party convention, which portrays Jewish Holocaust survivor George Soros as a puppet master who controls the Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, who is also Jewish. David Hann said in a statement that he had spoken with the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and “we want to assure our friends in the Jewish community that the image is not intended to incite hostility toward the Jewish people. We apologize, this should not have happened and we are committed to working with the JCRC to educate our staff and candidates about anti-Semitism”.

Hann said he spoke with Crockett and concluded that " the portrayal of Mr. Soros was not intended to be anti-Semitic, and neither Ms. Crockett nor her creative team was aware that the portrayal of a puppet master invoked an old but persistent anti-Semitic trope."

Elias, Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, has helped craft various Democratic legal solutions to new Republican-led voting restrictions in closely watched states like Georgia and Wisconsin, making him a frequent target of right-wing election conspiracy theories.

Soros has donated millions to challenge state election laws that Elias says disenfranchise the poor and people of color.

Elias is currently testifying in a federal case Michael Sussman , who is accused of lying to the FBI during the 2016 campaign.
