In his speech on the day of unity, the President of the Republic emphasized that we must preserve the intellectual and spiritual unity of our nation, which was divided into parts in the last century.

Our Hungarianness is as self-evident to us as water is to fish

- began the President of the Republic Katalin Novák's celebratory speech at the Rákóczi Association's National Solidarity Day event on Saturday.

The head of state especially greeted the young people from all over the Carpathian basin. As he put it,

today we do not mourn our losses, but celebrate our wealth.

"There is no difference between Hungarians living across the border and Hungarians from here, Hungarians are Hungarians," he stated. He said that he had come here to ask the question together, what does national unity, our Hungarianness, mean today.

The head of state also spoke about how, twenty years ago, when he said yes to his marriage, he did not think that he would have to say yes every day, even if it was not always easy. It is the same with our Hungarianness, he said.

"Being Hungarian is a decision, we have to say yes to our Hungarianness every day," he called attention. He continued by saying that we would like more and more Hungarians to say yes to being Hungarian, to marriage and starting a family. So that there are more and more people who want to be Hungarian. This requires courage in all parts of the Carpathian Basin, he added.

The President of the Republic reminded me that he saw this courage two weeks ago in Transylvania, at the newly inaugurated Bethlen statue in Gyulafehérvár, and then on the Reformed Unity Day, when three thousand people sang the Hungarian national anthem together.

The head of state then mentioned his many visits abroad, where he experienced the courage of the Hungarian people and, according to his words, he himself learns this courage every day.

Our job is to know, preserve and increase Hungarianness

he said.

In her speech, Katalin Novák then praised the Rákóczi Association, which strengthens national unity with meetings similar to today's.

As he said

we cannot fight the battles of our children and grandchildren, therefore we must know, preserve and increase our Hungarianness. If we get closer to understanding each other, others will understand us better

he explained. He added that this is why he traveled to Warsaw, Berlin, and next week to Prague and Bucharest.

- Today we celebrate the wealth of our nation, but all this is overshadowed by the war going on next door - continued Katalin Novák. He said that if there is a war in our neighbor, the Hungarians are also in danger there, which places additional responsibility on us. "That's why we have to take care of them and do everything we can to ensure that there is peace in Ukraine as soon as possible," he underlined. The President of the Republic specially greeted the Hungarians coming from Transcarpathia.

We promise to preserve the intellectual and spiritual unity of our nation, which was divided into parts in the last century

- says the creed - reminded Katalin Novák, and this obliges everyone today to make this promise come true - concluded the head of state's festive speech.
