Katalin Karikó was elected a member of the French Académie des Sciences. In addition to the alumna and research professor of the University of Szeged, the world-renowned biochemist who founded the mRNA medical technology with his discoveries, fifteen researchers became new members of the French scientific body.

At the inauguration ceremony on June 14, 2022, György Habsburg, Hungary's ambassador to Paris, appeared to greet Katalin Karikó; László Bódis, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, as well as Rector Prof. Dr. László Rovó and Chancellor Dr. Judit Fendler, as well as several leaders of the University of Szeged. In addition to being awarded the 24th L'Oréal-UNESCO International Prize for Women and Science, Katalin Karikó also received the Grande Médaille, the most prestigious recognition of French scientific public life.
