If the state does not fulfill certain conditions, Ukraine's EU candidate status may even be revoked, reports Yevropeyszka Pravda.

They recalled that, in addition to granting Ukraine membership, several demands were made, and that in the wording of the document approved on Friday, the European Commission left the option of withdrawing the candidate status if these reforms are not met.

The union classified the changes expected of Ukrainians into seven blocks:

  • Constitutional Court reform.
  • Judicial reform.
  • Anti-corruption reforms.
  • Action against money laundering.
  • Passing anti-oligarch laws.
  • Adaptation to EU law in the field of copyright.
  • Changing laws that discriminate against national minorities.

According to Yevropeyszka Pravda, the Ukrainian government and public opinion have received the candidate status positively for the time being, but it is quite possible that in the future they will be less happy about the changes they will have to make as a result.

It is also questionable how long the Ukrainians have to fulfill these conditions, since – in view of the war – the Union did not set a fixed date for this.
