On August 19, the statue of King Attila the Hun will finally be unveiled in Ópusztaszer, the dedication ceremony of the work was delayed due to construction difficulties. It is expected that many guests from here and beyond will come to the festive event.

After a few months of delay, on August 19, the five-meter high limestone statue of King Attila the Hun will finally be unveiled in Ópusztaszer, the work will be displayed in the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park. At the main entrance of the memorial park, a small mound was erected, and the monument will be placed on top of it. Magyar Nemzet learned two years ago, in the summer of 2020, that the limestone statue of King Attila the Hun was waiting for its fate to change for the better in a workshop in Gávencellő.

At that time, they reported that the work was looking for an owner, and they were waiting for the application of a local municipality willing to transport it and erect the statue in a worthy place and manner. We also wrote that the work was initiated by doctor György F. Ciráki

it was made by the sculptor István Parlag from the highlands in the workshop of Attila Petró, a stone carving contractor in Gávavencsello. György F. Ciráki then searched for a suitable location where the statue could be erected, but he kept running into obstacles.

He negotiated with several people back home, he visited the Highlands, and even people from Transylvania were interested in the possibility, but no agreement was reached. It was then that the story of the statue was published in the Magyar Nemzet. At the beginning of this year, György F. Ciráki contacted our paper and was happy to report that, following the article, many places inquired about the statue, and their choice ultimately fell on Ópusztaszer. The doctor justified this by saying that the historical memorial park is connected to Attila, the Huns, and also conveys the Hun-Hungarian continuity, which is very important to him.

I am quite sure that the forecourt of the main entrance will be an excellent place, all the more so because if we go into the memorial park, there is a statue of leader Árpád just a hundred meters away, he added.

At first, the statue was to be unveiled in the spring, on March 30, but then new obstacles arose, so the ceremony had to be postponed.

Someone helped transport the statue, the concrete block was made by a local contractor, and two local contractors carried out the demolition of the work. An entrepreneur from Kistelek also undertook the installation of the statue with his crane. All this moved our community as well - said László Gémes. He added: for the ceremonial unveiling of the statue on August 19, many guests from here and beyond are expected at the border.
