The former minister of national defense gave an interview to Hírklikk, the newsletter of the MSZP, in which he spoke about the fact that there is no evidence that Hungarians are a military nation. According to Ferenc Juhász, there is a serious danger to the development of Hungarian military forces, as an arms race could start in the region in countries where "they are afraid of Hungarian nationalism".
The politician stated that arms purchases are the new stadiums from which money can be easily and quickly stolen, and moreover, nothing confirms the historical tradition that Hungary was a military nation.
In Juhász's opinion, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky draws a lot of conclusions from appearances and spectacular elements, since "he likes to wear military uniforms and appear in places where there are such entertainments".
The Minister of National Defense of the first Gyurcsány government stated that Szalay-Bobrovniczky should focus on training and preparation.

- said the left-wing politician, according to whom Szalay-Bobrovniczky would like to have a capability that would give the homeland a chance to defend itself, and this is a normal idea from the Minister of National Defense.
However, he expressed concern that the Minister of Defense is one
they would try to instill a kind of false consciousness, which would say that the Hungarian soldier won brilliant victories over the combined armies of the world, and even now everyone falls to their knees just by looking at us.
According to Juhász, this is an incorrect perception. Regarding the Hungarian military development, he said that it is nothing more than theft. The minister of the Gyurcsány government stated that some acquisitions are not really strategically justified, or at least the overall picture that is necessary to understand why they are being developed in such a way and for so much is not visible.
