The left rejects the previous increase: parking in Budapest may become more expensive.

Three hours of parking in Budapest could cost as much as six thousand forints according to the left's plans - this is what the Budapest president of the LMP talked about in a radio program. Since Monday, people waiting by car in the capital have to pay much more than before. There are three times the previous fee, HUF 600 per hour. LMP's István Ferenczi downplayed this in an interview: in his opinion, another drastic increase would discourage people from driving.

Instead of 175 forints, 600 forints for one hour of steaming - on Monday, this rate was already in effect at several points in the city. The payment system for waiting in a car was reformed from September 5 by the Metropolitan Municipality led by Gergely Karácsony.

Instead of 27, 4 parking zones were created. In some places, fees have more than tripled.

Motorists who spoke to M1 were almost shocked by how much they have to pay from now on.

One hour would be HUF 600, two hours more than HUF 2,000, and three hours of parking would be HUF 6,000 according to the left's plans - the idea was outlined by the Budapest president of the LMP in a broadcast on Spirit FM after the new tariff came into force.

István Ferenczi , the fact that parking has become much more expensive in the city center is correct and a good thing.

In the conversation, the LMP politician called the price increase useful, welcome and a step forward. The politician from the capital also stated that, in his opinion, the system could be perfected by further increasing the price.

And then I immediately say how it could be even better: it could be even better if the first hour was just as expensive, I don't know, maybe HUF 800 for an hour of parking. Let it be the second hour, now I'm hitting my belly, but let it be HUF 1,500, and if someone parks there for three hours, that should be HUF six thousand in total

he said.

Origo commented on the words of the LMP representative. According to the portal, it is no coincidence that a left-wing politician talked about further price increases in the first days after the introduction of the drastic fee increase. As Origo puts it: it will presumably be the task of the LMP to announce another, brutal increase.

Besides the people of Budapest, entrepreneurs and professional organizations also spoke out against the decision.

The chairman of the legal committee of the Hungarian Automobile Club spoke to M1 about:

the price increase was not preceded by impact studies, i.e. the change in parking fees is considered unconstitutional.

" There should be impact studies that prove that if the amount of parking fees had not increased as much as it has now, then it would not have been possible to properly regulate parking, " said Kázmér Kovács.

But not only the price increase can hurt motorists. In many places, the end of the toll period was postponed from 8 pm to 10 pm in the capital. Time restrictions have also been introduced in most of the parking zones. From Monday, you can only park in zones A, B and C for 3 hours at a time. In several places, except for local residents, no one is allowed to stop between 6 pm and 7 am.
