An exhibition entitled Jankovics Marcell in memoriam will open on Thursday in Warsaw, and the animation entitled The Tragedy of Man by the artist of the nation, Kossuth and Béla Balázs award-winning Hungarian cartoon director will also be screened at the opening as a Polish presentation.

Éva Rubovszky, the widow of Marcell Jankovics (1941-2021), will take part in the opening. Thanks to the exhibition, the Polish audience can get to know the oeuvre of the versatile artist for the first time, reads the website of Teatr Druga Strefa in Warsaw. The institution hosting the exhibition operates in the Mokotów district of the capital's center, in a post-industrial area. Visitors can see the details of Jankovics' animations, his graphics related to the films, and the script of his Bible film left in the trunk.

Part of the exhibition will be a room with furnishings reminiscent of the 90s of the last century, in which the Gusztáv series produced with the participation of Jankovics will be broadcast on the TV set of the time.

The highly successful film series is also known in Poland, it was shown on Polish television in the 1980s and 90s.

the organizers recall. At Thursday's opening, The Tragedy of Man will be presented with Polish subtitles, using the translation of Gábor Bethlen Prize-winning Polish poet Bogdan Zadura. Imre Madách's work was published in Zadura's new Polish translation in 2014. At the time, the poet told MTI: Jankovics Marcell's film adaptation also has a role in the fact that he himself sees the drama as more and more modern and relevant. The exhibition, organized with the support of the Hungarian Embassy in Warsaw, the Hungarian Cultural Center of the Liszt Institute in Warsaw, and the municipality of the Polish capital, will be open for viewing until October 30.
