The head of the ministry said of the European Parliament's report condemning Hungary: "this is a completely worthless paper."

The European Parliament's statement condemning the Hungarian rule of law and democracy has no significance - said Gergely Gulyás, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office, on the HírTV program. Index writes: according to the head of the ministry, the sanctions even help Russia, and that they want to maintain price caps in Hungary as long as possible.

"Worthless Paper"

As is known, the report was adopted by the European Parliament on Thursday. Gergely Gulyás also reacted to the move, saying: there was no surprise, they expected the decision, and

according to him, the current statement is a "completely worthless piece of paper",

in which some representatives described an extreme opinion which today has a majority in the European Parliament. According to him, the only reason for the resolution is that the voters do not vote the way they want.

There are about as many falsehoods in this report as there were previously in the Sargentini or Tavares reports”

said Gergely Gulyás. Regarding what will happen to the EU resources in light of the European Parliament's decision, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office said: it is not yet known to what extent the European Commission will take the European Parliament's decision into account. He added: in his opinion, it is sad that Hungarian representatives are working to prevent Hungary from receiving funds from which "teachers, pedagogues, Hungarian healthcare would receive funds".

Sanctions do not hurt Russia

Then Gergely Gulyás also spoke about EU sanctions against Russia in the HírTV program. "The European Union has imposed sanctions that clearly do not hurt Russia or indirectly even specifically benefit Russia, as this has caused energy prices to skyrocket and this means extra income for Moscow. However, it puts the European economy and European citizens in an extremely difficult situation. So, now is the time to evaluate the European sanctions […] we gave a huge reward to whoever we wanted to sanction […] while all of this represents a huge burden for Europe, far greater than EU financial support

- said the minister, who says that it is clear that the sanctions did not fulfill the hopes attached to them. Regarding why they did not support the idea of the EU gas cap, Gergely Gulyás said: they think this step only makes sense for a product that Europe could also produce. This is not the case with gas, therefore, according to him, such a step would practically be a sanction imposed on gas

I would like to maintain the price stop

"Next week at the latest," Gergely Gulyás said when asked when a decision would be made on the fuel and food price freeze in force in Hungary, as well as the interest rate freeze. The minister added:

I want to maintain the price stops as long as possible,

because in the current economic situation this is a great help to many. On the same issue, the stakeholders of the fuel market also spoke on Thursday, who, in turn, said that, in their opinion, it would be time to completely lift the gasoline price cap.
