Enoch Burke refused to address his transgender student with the pronoun "they". According to him, there are only boys and girls.

A teacher in Ireland refused to address his transgender student with the pronoun "they" because of his religious beliefs. The teacher was first sent on paid leave for this, and then when he resumed his work, he was imprisoned.

He has been in prison for 11 days, it is not known when he will be released.

The twist in her story is that when she refused to use the pronoun "they", she got into a heated argument with the principal, which resulted in a restraining order from the local court.

Enoch Burke stated to the court that

"I stand here today because I refuse to call a boy a girl".

Many Irish conservatives see him as a martyr.
