Pope Francis asked young people in Assisi, Italy to save the planet. During his short visit to the historic city - the birthplace of its namesake saint - the Pope spoke in front of a thousand young people from a hundred countries, including economists, on Saturday. Together with the participants of the meeting, the head of the church also signed the agreement on the creation of an "economy of peace".

"Our generation left you a rich heritage, but we did not know how to preserve the integrity of our planet, and we cannot preserve peace," said the head of the Catholic Church. Lamenting the lack of "creativity, optimism and enthusiasm", he added:

We thank God that you are here. And not only will you be here tomorrow, but you are already here today.

The head of the church explained to the audience that, in his opinion, a world economy is needed that looks at the environment and the Earth with new eyes. He said many people, businesses and institutions have already made the ecological transition, but "we need to continue on this path and do more".

The Pope also signed a contract with the young people coming to the three-day meeting called The Economy of Francesco, which aims to create an "economy of peace".

The signatories are committed to building an economy that serves people, families and life, respects all women, men, children, the elderly and, above all, the most vulnerable and vulnerable people.

This new economy, bearing the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi, can be the economy of peace, the Pope stated, emphasizing that the situation today is such that

we cannot wait for the next international summit, because it may be too late, the Earth is already on fire, so we must act now at all levels.

Before returning to the Vatican, the Pope also spoke about how we must start again to stop using fossil energy sources and accelerate the spread of zero- or positive-impact energy sources.
