At the moment, it is not an exaggeration to say that our global security is at stake because of the war in Ukraine, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the 3rd ministerial-level meeting of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok.

Péter Szijjártó emphasized in the video of his speech, which was shared on Facebook on Thursday, that the war in Ukraine is constantly escalating, while the world has to face other challenges as well.

War is a risk physically, in terms of energy and food supply, as well as financially, he added.

That is why I think it is necessary to declare that things are going in the wrong direction, and that we are faced with the fact that our efforts of several decades may be in jeopardy - said Péter Szijjártó.

The head of the ministry pointed out: he represents the country that is Ukraine's immediate neighbor, that is, Hungarians live in the immediate vicinity of the war, so they experience the effects of the war firsthand.

He added that, at the same time, the effects of war know no borders, so the Asian and Pacific regions also suffer from the consequences of the war.

The minister stated that the solution would be peace, which is why Hungary is constantly working to promote an immediate ceasefire and peace negotiations.

If peace came, we would be able to control inflation, the irrationally rising energy prices and restore the security of the food supply on a global level, emphasized Péter Szijjártó.

He said that Hungary supports all decisions that bring peace closer, but will not support those that prolong the war.
He also said that it is essential to further strengthen the relationship with the Asian region based on mutual respect. The cooperation of Europe and Asia would help us to mitigate the negative effects of the war situation - he assessed.

He noted that if they cannot restore the trade processes, the supply chain between Europe and Asia, then a European recession cannot be avoided.
That is why we want to call on the UN to ensure the smoothness of the European and Asian transport routes and to restore the relations between the two continents to the foundations of free trade - emphasized Péter Szijjártó.
