The governing parties consider the national consultation to be an obligation, as they promised in 2010 that they would ask the people's opinion on matters affecting the long-term future of Hungary - István Hollik Sunday newspaper The communications director of Fidesz reminded us that this was also the case with the handling of covid and migration, and now "here is this sanctions system" which is clearly destroying the European economy.

The politician said, "at the same time, I am sure that if several million Hungarians express their opinion - in exactly the same way as we saw with regard to the mandatory quota - Brussels cannot ignore it". According to him, the elite there "sits in a bubble", does not notice or does not want to acknowledge that the sanctions against Russia "backfired", refuses to acknowledge that energy prices are in the sky and that people are protesting in the streets due to unpayable overheads.

In a democracy, the opinion of the people cannot be ignored - emphasized István Hollik. At the same time, he expressed the hope that this basic regulation "has not been forgotten in Brussels yet." The politician from the ruling party emphasized that the most important questions in the consultation are the energy sanctions.

He recalled that, although previously the heads of state and government had agreed that the sanctions would not be extended to the field of energy, in the summer the vast majority of European leaders changed their opinion. "This is the source of our trouble," he added. According to him, these steps hurt everyone.

He also pointed out that simply putting the gas price cap proposal on the agenda brought an immediate ten percent increase in the stock price of gas. István Hollik emphasized that the Hungarian people are protected by the utility reduction, but the additional costs of one thousand five hundred billion forints must be borne by the Hungarian public finances. Sanctions should be removed - he continued - so that the price of energy goes back to a range that does not threaten the European economy and its competitiveness.

Everything must be done to ensure that Paks-2 can be built, because if our country can become independent from the international energy supply, at least in terms of electricity, it means an incredible competitive advantage for the economy and great security for the citizens. In this regard, István Hollik called it amazing irresponsibility that the Hungarian left supports the sanctions on the one hand, but at the same time demands the suspension of the Paks-2 investment.

In relation to tourism, he pointed out that banning Russian citizens from traveling to Europe only harms the European tourism sector, and this clearly shows why the sanctions system is bad. István Hollik believed that if the peace talks were to start as soon as possible, it would be a relief for the whole world, since no more people would lose their lives, energy prices would immediately fall back, and this would also radically reduce the inflation from which the whole of Europe is suffering.

The mailing of the new consultation sheets started on Friday. There are seven questions on the sheets about the already introduced or planned sanctions measures against Russia, as well as their consequences.

The government is waiting for the public's opinion on the oil sanctions, the measures regarding gas transports, raw materials, nuclear fuel, the sanctions related to the expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant and tourism, as well as their impact on food prices and migration.
