The number of electric cars has more than doubled, and thus the utilization of public charging stations, according to a statement from the Hungarian Energy and Public Utilities Authority. There are almost 25 percent more charging stations than last year.

More and more people are using public electric charging stations, according to the latest report of the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Office (MEKH). According to the office's data, in the second quarter of 2022, users spent 45 percent more energy at public electric charging stations than in the same period of 2021. And the number of charging devices increased by 24.8 percent to 2,031 units in one year. 4,094 connectors are available to users of electric vehicles at these charging stations.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, an increase can be observed in all counties. The largest increase was in the counties of Békés (41.7 percent), Tolna (41.7 percent), Hajdú-Bihar (40.7 percent) and Győr-Moson-Sopron (40.5 percent). 126 new chargers were installed in Budapest.

According to the data of the Ministry of the Interior, the number of cars with green license plates, which means they are environmentally friendly, increased by 67 percent compared to last year. Today, more than 53,000 electric cars are on the roads of our country.

Because of all this, the amount of energy spent on charging has also increased significantly: in the second quarter of 2022, motorists used 4,888 MWh of electricity at public electric charging stations, 2,640 MWh more than in the same quarter of 2021; and the number of charges has doubled.
