National immigration systems are under increasing pressure: the number of applications for asylum reached a new peak in August compared to those experienced during the exceptionally high migration wave of 2015-2016, the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) announced on Wednesday.

According to the report of the Malta-based EU agency, after the number of asylum applications submitted to the competent authorities of the EU member states between May and July increased unusually, the process continued to strengthen by the end of the summer. The analysis shows that around 84,500 applications for asylum were submitted in EU member states in August, which is a monthly record since the start of the refugee crisis in 2015-2016. Both Afghans (12,100) and Syrians (11,900) submitted approximately 30 percent more applications in the month under review than in August of previous years, which represents a 16 percent increase in their case compared to July.

In addition to Afghans and Syrians, the number of applicants from Turkey (4,600), India (4,200) and Morocco (1,900) also increased, and Bangladeshis (3,300) also submitted more asylum applications in August than at any time since 2015. Among others, the number of applicants from Pakistan, Tunisia and Georgia was in line with the increasing trend.

It was noted that, as in the period 2015-2016, the Western Balkan migration route remains the most popular among migrants. The number of Afghans and Syrians arriving via this route doubled between April and August, they wrote.

The EU agency's report on asylum procedures also revealed that a large number of people who fled the war in Ukraine registered for temporary protection, which provides access to health care, the labor market and public education, among other things. In August, the authorities of the member states registered about 255,000 such requests. As of November 6, almost 4.7 million Ukrainian citizens have applied for temporary protection in the European Union since the war began on February 24.

In August, around 4,700 applicants declared themselves to be unaccompanied minors, which was 28 percent higher than the previous month's data and is also a record high compared to the data recorded in 2015. Their number is 4 percent of all applicants. The number of registered asylum applications and applications for temporary protection by Ukrainian refugees has so far exceeded 5 million in 2022, they added.

2022 plus:

It is also fortunate that the Hungarian opposition said it well in advance: this is a fake problem. What if it was real?

Anyone who pays even a little attention knows, even without any reports or analysis, that the number of people who want to enter the territory of the Union is not decreasing, but is constantly increasing. It is also not surprising that so many unaccompanied "minors" arrive, whose actual age, by the way, is unknown. Absurdly, the authorities have to accept the age that the migrant declares, citing all kinds of human rights, they cannot doubt this claim, even if the young man has a long white beard.

We have written many times, and others have also written, that while an EU citizen is checked at the airport, for example, it is impossible to check those who arrive uninvited (and often violently) in the vast majority of cases. While an EU citizen cannot take a single step without identity documents, it is as rare as a white raven among migrants to have such a document.

The most obvious question: if they are not stopped, if their inclusion is almost mandatory (look, even the Italians who act more strictly were immediately attacked by several liberal-led EU member states and the press controlled by them), then what are the surveys and statistics for? However, we cannot expect a logical answer to this question.
