In a decision, the German parliament supported the withdrawal of EU funds from Hungary.

The German Federal Parliament supports the European Union disbursing 7.5 billion euros less EU money to Hungary due to corruption and rule of law problems, the Bundestag adopted the relevant decision on Thursday night.

In the decision, the German legislature called on the federal government to vote in the European Council to reduce the subsidies to be provided to Hungary in the event that the reforms undertaken by the Budapest government are not deemed sufficient, reports MTI.

German government parties voted in favor of the resolution, Die Linke and AfD voted against, and the CDU/CSU abstained, reports Blikk.

Through the parliamentary resolution, the three coalition partners want to press Chancellor Olaf Scholz to have the German government vote in the Council vote in December to suspend a part of the EU funds for Hungary's catch-up, and only later, concrete evidence of the lasting improvement of the rule of law situation allow the Hungarian government access to the suspended funds after - according to the paper.
