In the European Union, a decision on the Hungarian situation must be made with full justification, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Tuesday in connection with the fact that several EU member states, including Germany, asked the European Commission to update its previous assessment in connection with the rule of law mechanism.

In response to a question at the press conference following the meeting of the heads of state and government of the EU member states and the Western Balkan countries in Tirana, Scholz said: we should not ignore the fact that decisions regarding EU expectations are still being made in Hungary.

And it is the job of the European Commission to monitor the development of the situation in the member states, the German Chancellor added.

Finance Minister Mihály Varga previously drew attention to the following in Brussels:

Several member countries indicated that an objective assessment would be necessary, taking into account the steps taken by the Hungarian government after November 19. For example, both France and Germany believe that there is a kind of disproportionality in the committee's assessment

- pointed out the head of the ministry, expressing his hope that the EU executive body will conclude the process with a more objective rating.
