In 2004, the socialists won nine EU mandates, and now the last István Ujhelyi has left the sinking ship. Left without an EP representative, the socialists started preparing for the EP elections.

The MSZP, which shows increasingly weak public opinion poll data, is running ahead, which is why it was already reported at the weekend that  they had begun preparations for the 2024 local government and European Parliament elections and presented several of their mayoral candidates.

The party committee also decided to continue to support those city leaders who are in office; and where the parties cannot agree, a preliminary election is proposed. So they have now named settlements and districts where opposition politicians were defeated in 2019.

The capital XVI. in his district, they are trying Ferenc Csizmazia. Here in 2019, DK's Gábor Nemes had to congratulate Péter Kovács from Fidesz, who beat him by a huge margin (57.4:38.9 percent). He entered the representative body from the Czizmazia list.

The XVII. in the district, municipal representative Károly Lukóczki is entered into the race, but three years earlier, Gy. Erzsébet Németh of DK - who, however, became deputy mayor and then member of parliament from April - bled very badly, Fidesz's Tamás Horváth lost the second place by almost 12 percentage points place (51.8:37 percent). By the way, Lukóczki also took part in the parliamentary primaries, but was defeated by György Szilágyi from Jobbik in a ratio of 62:38 percent. It is another matter that he also lost to Mónika Dunai from the government party in the parliamentary vote.
