- There is an energy crisis in Europe, unfortunately Brussels mishandles this situation as well, the gas cap is the wrong answer. Especially in the case of Hungary, since it does not take into account our special situation arising from our geographical location, and it can easily endanger the security of our country's energy supply, Péter Szijjártó wrote on his social media page.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in an extraordinary meeting The issue of the gas cap was on the agenda.

In his video post, the head of the ministry indicated that almost everyone outside of Hungary can accept the introduction of the gas price cap, but no final agreement has yet been reached on its details. The minister emphasized: the gas cap is a bad, unnecessary and dangerous idea for dealing with the energy crisis. Gas will be cheaper if there is more of it on the market.

Péter Szijjártó also drew attention to the fact that without an impact study, Brussels would be rudely interfering in market processes. Now another round is expected in the case, negotiations can continue on Monday, December 19.

The minister reminded: the price cap would have been a reaction to the record prices experienced in the summer, but which have since recovered, but the last few months also show that the situation has stabilized even without any kind of market intervention. He also pointed out that the measure can give rise to serious speculation, because if the level of the price cap is known, then every seller will know that the union is willing to pay that much, so this may even result in a price increase in a counterproductive way.
