After a four-year break, Székely Freedom Day will be held again in Marosvásárhely on March 10, announced the Székely National Council (SZNT). Only Székelyföld's internal self-determination can ensure full and effective equality of citizens living in its territory.

The president of the SZNT, in a call sent to MTI, reminds that in recent years, due to the pandemic, "alternative commemorations" had to be devised, where crowds do not gather. However, members of the community have repeatedly expressed the need for a mass movement, the time for which, as he writes, has now come.

"On the tenth of March, at 4 p.m., let's gather at Postarét in Marosvásárhely and march from there, according to tradition, to the main square of the city, in front of the government office. Let's be strong, brave and consistent, and let's send a message to the whole world: we demand the freedom of the Székely people: self-determination within the state of Székelyföld with constitutional means, non-violently, but with unshakable perseverance"

- says Balázs Izsák.

The SZNT invites the residents of Székelyföld, who can, to be present at the event in Marosvásárhely, so that they can express the community's demand for autonomy peacefully and with dignity. He asks the Hungarian parties, civil organizations, and the congregations of the historical Hungarian churches to participate in the preparations, to encourage the participation of the people of Székely and the Hungarians of Transylvania as a whole.

They turn to the organizations of Hungarians living in the wider world with the request that they march with Székely flags in front of the Romanian embassies on March 10 and express their solidarity with the Székely autonomy movement.

"It is important that there are as many of us as possible, so that everyone understands: neither threats nor the unchanged maintenance of illegal measures scares us, the stake of our struggle is always the freedom of Székely"

Balázs Izsák emphasizes.

Recalling the preliminary results of the 2022 census, the president of the SZNT points out: "we are aware of the dramatic decrease in the population of the Hungarian national community in Transylvania". But he also draws attention to cases where the means of minority rights protection "worked poorly or did not work at all", such as Marosvásárhely II. Calvary of Ferenc Rákóczi Roman Catholic Theological High School.

According to the SZNT, the issue of the Marosvásárhely medical university and Hungarian medical education cannot be considered resolved, as can the free use of the mother tongue. As Balázs Izsák emphasizes, the Transylvanian Hungarian community must show strength and submit a petition to the Romanian government on behalf of thousands of protesters.

"In a petition, we ask the government to use the means of power, through which the country's population decline will be stopped. Take measures so that the citizens who have settled in Romania return home", says the president of the SZNT, adding: "if you are unable to do so, then take note that the Székely community can do this in its own territory, in Székelyföld, with the powerful instrument of territorial autonomy".

"Only the internal self-determination of Székelyföld can ensure the full and effective equality of citizens living in its territory"

Balázs Izsák emphasizes.

In conclusion, the president of the SZNT points out that the people of Székely can only put an end to the economic decline and discrimination under the conditions of freedom, with their own abilities and on the basis of their own decisions.
