The State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for church and ethnic relations believes that peace can be done with faith.
On Sunday, Miklós Soltész, after the thanksgiving service held in the renovated Reformed church in Bánhorváti, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, called it important to "fill the churches that have been renovated in recent years with joint prayer that calls for peace".
The state secretary said: the past decade was a golden age in Hungary in terms of developments, including church renovations and the construction of community centers. He put it this way: the Hungarians in the motherland and beyond the borders realized that the time had come to fix "the destruction caused by the communists".
This is how the renovation of the Reformed church in Bánhrovát was realized, which was first renovated from the outside with a government grant of HUF 60 million, and then, thanks to an additional HUF 150 million help from the cabinet, its interior was also restored and modernized, he said.
At the same time, Miklós Soltész added, while Bánhorváti celebrates the results of an important investment, people living near the Ukrainian border are terrified. Therefore, all means and forums must be seized to create peace, he emphasized.
He reminded: this work always begins at the basic levels, in families and church communities, and then between denominations.
The Secretary of State called it terrible and disgraceful that in Europe "the so-called important leaders" are talking about sanctions and arms shipments instead of peace, destroying their own countries and the East-Central European region as well. There are two "significant leaders" who constantly ask for peace, talk about it and act for it: Pope Francis and Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, he noted.
