I wouldn't be surprised if I read on hvg.hu or 444 that Aranybulla was actually published by Gergely Karácsony. Interview.

"In the most recent Capital Assembly, a fierce debate arose: in his speech before the agenda, Zsolt Wintermantel, the leader of the Fidesz-KDNP faction in Budapest, said: "the silence is chilling and terrifying" that Mayor Gergely Karácsony did not speak, "when Hungarian and foreign far-left persons were on the streets of Budapest in an almost conspiratorial, organized, group attack on passers-by chosen arbitrarily based on their clothing or appearance". What do you think was the reason why the mayor did not speak?

I can't tell you why the mayor speaks or why he doesn't on certain matters. I cannot follow this either intellectually or logically.

According to my experience, however, it really happens that the mayor speaks very loudly on matters that do not necessarily belong to him, and on which - as they directly affect the capital and the position for which a mayor is elected - he should be spoken to, but he unexpectedly remains silent .

You should ask him what the reason for this is. I have the feeling that attacks of this kind were perhaps invented and are taking place in order to see if there will be a similar reaction in the event of inciting certain emotions, which the opposition media and the opposition itself can then blow up into a huge balloon, and it can be said what kind of how anti-foreigner, how racist, what extreme right-wing manifestations can be experienced in Budapest. Maybe they want to provoke something like that with him.

Gergely Karácsony likes to speak on other topics: a few weeks ago, at a conference in Brussels, he spoke about, among other things, that Hungary is very far from fulfilling the expectations that the European Union expects from countries wishing to join, and he demanded at the event to strengthen the tools created to protect the rule of law.

The mayor really has such speeches that it is hard to suppress a smile. If I had done such things, the opposition media would have picked on me. There is something to be desired when, for example, he sends a message to the American president and the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, because this is far from his competence, but it is also not his level. Not to mention that such messages hardly reach the recipient. I don't think that the Russian president or any member of the Chinese Central Committee will seriously think about these messages. I would reconsider these announcements if I were the mayor.

At the same time, I don't want to defend him, but often even he himself doesn't know what to say during such a meeting. Even when he sat in my assembly, I had the feeling that he was not his own master.

In the last year of my term as mayor, the opposition liked to accuse me of the same thing, for which there was no basis. You can hear a lot about the mentioned Brussels road. Again, it was not a very lucky manifestation of the mayor that he saved carbon dioxide on the road, because the planes take off regardless of whether a person named Gergely Karácsony from Budapest gets on the plane or not. However, I would like to add that no matter how much this trip cost, he did it rightly in principle.

The problem is not with this, but with what he said: no one can speak against his own country in any form!

For me, this is incompatible with the position and conscience of a mayor. And the false explanation is that he is attacking the government and not his country. After all, if we do not receive the EU funds, then the country, the Hungarian citizens, will be the victims.

This year, Budapest expects HUF 272 billion in business tax, which is an additional revenue of HUF 76 billion compared to previous years. Despite this, the capital's left-wing leadership complains about a constant lack of money and blames the government. Isn't there a contradiction in that?

Three years ago, I said that if the Karácsonys make any mistakes or fail to do so in the cycle, there can be two reasons: either why Tarlós hasn't done it already, or that the government makes it impossible for them and doesn't give them money. The communication of a significant part of the opposition media is very strange anyway: they often try to defend the indefensible. Last time I read that Gergely Karácsony implemented the 4 subway. After that, I wouldn't be surprised if I read on Hvg.hu or 444 that Aranybulla was actually published by Gergely Karácsony. When we handed over metro 4 in March 2014, Gergely Karácsony was not even close to the capital. I am not exactly aware of Budapest's current financial situation, because I have never heard the same number twice from city leaders.

What I know for sure is that we took over the capital from Gábor Demszky with a debt of HUF 250 billion, and left it with a reserve of HUF 200 billion. In absolute terms, this is HUF 450 billion. The current city administration does not deny this either."
