The Hungarian national anthem was played, and the cold shower came.

A year after the match, it still sounds like a real miracle: the Hungarian national football team defeated England 4-0 in a match on June 14, 2022. Before the brilliant triumph won by Marco Rossi's crew, Hungary had won 69 years ago in the homeland of football against the English team, the Golden Team in the match of the century, 6-3. According to many, the success in Wolverhampton has since entered the history of Hungarian football as the game of the new century, the 21st century.

Unforgettable goal joys on the pitch, euphoric atmosphere after the match, frenetic atmosphere in the Hungarian fan sector. This is how we could briefly describe the Hungarian national team's away match against England last year. Even the outcome of the match in Budapest ten days earlier was fantastic, as the Hungarian team beat the islanders by one goal after sixty years, but from the perspective of a year, it can be said that that match was just a taste for those hungry for Hungarian success.

Not many expected that Marco Rossi's team would not slow down even away from home and would take the lead against England in the 16th minute of the match, through Roland Sallai.

The happiness was indescribable, moreover, the Hungarian national team did not slow down at all after the first goal.

Sallai scored again in the 70th minute, and shortly afterwards Zsolt Nagy also scored. The Wolverhampton stadium was almost resounding with the camp of a few hundred Hungarian fans.

The English fans first booed their own players and then sadly headed home.

Meanwhile, the flurry of Hungarian goals continued, in the 89th minute Dániel Gazdag scored the penalty kick for the English.

and the Hungarian team once again wrote itself into football history.

The success is also sensational because Hungary beat England away for the first time in 69 years, since the legendary 6-3, which suffered its biggest home defeat in more than nine decades.

Not only the fans, but also the players were at a loss for words after the wonderful victory

"I don't think anyone thought we'd kick them four here in England, so we were very happy and the added joy is to see where we've come from, where we've come. And I think that in the near future we really have to be reckoned with," emphasized Roland Sallai, who scored two goals.

The national team captain Marco Rossi said: this result is the peak of his career so far.

"When I die - hopefully as soon as possible - I am sure that in Hungary I will be remembered with a minute's silence in the stadiums. If so, it will be a great achievement on my part"

said the captain feeling emotional.

The touching moments continued after the match. The players celebrated together with the fans and sang the National Anthem together, so the celebration lasted a long time both on the field and in the stands. The good mood didn't end after the match either, the supporters sang, hugged each other and celebrated the team on their way out of the stadium.

Many people were interested in the match. The broadcast on M4 Sport set a viewership record, almost 850,000 people supported the national team in front of the screens.

The euphoria of victory did not subside the next day either

The country's soccer fans rewatched the best moments the day after the match, and many children went to school wearing the Hungarian national team jersey on Wednesday.

The sensational Hungarian success traveled all over the world. It even reached New York,

where in the busy Time Square, among the neon signs, people could read that Hungary had suffered the biggest home defeat against England since 1928.

That evening, in the other match of the group, the Germans beat the European champions Italy 5-2, and as a result, the Hungarian team jumped to the top and could play for the group victory in the last two matches - against the Germans and Italians.
