The Józsefváros municipality received several reports that unknown criminals had placed screws hidden in food on several occasions, mainly in dog runs.

The municipality drew the attention of the anonymous perpetrators that animal cruelty is a serious crime.

The Józsefváros municipality cited the stricter animal protection law of 2021 when they drew the perpetrators' attention to the seriousness of their crime. highlighted,

if the animal cruelty is committed by using poison or by placing baits suitable for killing the animal and causing the death of several animals, the penalty is one to five years' imprisonment

They also added that if the animal survives the poisoning, the perpetrator can be sentenced to two years in prison.

The municipality asked the residents of Józsefváros to use one of the following options if they themselves encounter such a case - whether they have dogs or not:

• report the incident to the police (by calling 112 or online via police.hu

• collect suspicious items,

• notify the local dogs, which can be done most easily through the Green European Association.
