The European electricity market has become inoperable, therefore it is necessary to reform the market at the European level, said Ursula von der Leyen. The President of the European Commission spoke about this at the energy security summit of the Baltic States in Copenhagen. At the press conference following the talks, he stated that "using the power of the wind, we are moving away from fossil fuels from Russia."

Although Ursula von der Leyen spoke about the importance of renewable resources, primarily the establishment of wind farms, she admitted:

coal power plants continue to play a significant role in the security of the European electricity market.

However, 5.6 billion euros will be set aside for the European green transition in order to free Europe from Russian energy dependence, the president said.

"We have to work out long-term, structural reforms of the electricity market. The electricity market is no longer a functioning market, as it has one actor, Vladimir Putin, who is trying to systematically destroy and manipulate it. That is why we are trying to change the composition of the market," explained Ursula von der Leyen.

At the press conference following the discussions, he stated that "using the power of the wind, we are moving away from fossil fuels from Russia" .
