The organizers and the organizations responsible for people's safety are both prepared for the St. Stephen's Day programs - State Secretary for International Communication and Relations Zoltán Kovács announced the assessment made at the meeting of the operational staff responsible for organizing the holiday on August 20 on his social media page on Thursday.

As in previous years, we are celebrating Hungary's birthday with a series of large-scale programs - announced the state secretary, who also said that from Friday to Sunday evening, more than 200 free programs await interested parties, those who want to relax and celebrate, at 14 locations.

Zoltán Kovács announced that the central location of the St. Stephen's Day events will be the capital this time as well.

In accordance with tradition, there will be a flag raising and cleaning at Kossuth Lajos Square, an aerial parade over the Danube, a Holy Mass and a Saint Jobb procession at the Saint Stephen's Basilica, and the series of programs will be topped off by the light and fireworks show on Sunday evening, he listed.

The state secretary also wrote that President Katalin Novák will give a ceremonial speech in Esztergom on the morning of August 20, and that in the afternoon he will present the award of the Hungarian Order of St. Stephen. More details about the programs of the celebration series on this page

At the same time, Alexandra Szentkirályi posted a video of the holiday preparations on social media.

The government spokesperson said in connection with the traditional August 20 fireworks display: with 34,000 effects, the special visuals of the holiday fireworks, which are expanded with new elements, are complemented by a drone and laser show and light painting.

Presenting some of the pyrotechnic devices, he said: a half-hour long fantastic magic will take place on a four-kilometer stretch of the Danube, including a laser show, a drone show, light painting, fireworks and an "exciting novelty", which is why it's worth watching the surface of the Danube as well.
