Excluding this knowledge material from the scope of general education also means devaluing our national artistic heritage - protests the MTA in its statement.
In a statement , the Hungarian Academy of Sciences responded to the fact that, in accordance with the new National Core Curriculum (NAT) of 2020, art history as an independent subject will no longer be available as an optional subject in state-run secondary schools from 2024, and the possibility of graduating from it will cease in Hungary.
The Scientific Committee on the History of Art of the Department of Philosophy and History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences has started protesting, as they say, "unacceptable, ill-considered, and extremely harmful in both the short and long term" believes that "gender is an integral part of general education".
The tradition and present of European and Hungarian fine arts is in no way inferior to our literary heritage. This is especially true in the image-centered culture of the 21st century, which communicates with the synthetic unity of images and words.
Eliminating this knowledge material from the scope of general education also means devaluing our national artistic heritage, ultimately leading to a weakening of our cultural competitiveness
- they wrote in the statement.
In connection with the case, they also pointed out that until now art history was only an optional subject in high school education, it could only be taught within the framework of a faculty or with a special maintenance permit, and it was also optional in the range of high school graduation subjects. "Nevertheless, many took advantage of this opportunity," they wrote.
