In recent years, certain parties of the left and representatives of the European Parliament have worked to outdo each other so that Hungary does not receive EU funds.
Momentum politicians were among the most active, and it is no coincidence that Miklós Hajnal boasted in ATV last Monday that Anna Donáth and Katalin Cseh played a decisive role in withholding the EU funds due to our country.
Following Miklós Hajnal's television interview last week, Magyar Nemzet launched a series of articles, in which it recalled the joint actions launched by the EU politicians of the left-wing parties against our country, as well as the fact that Ferenc Gyurcsány, the President of the DK, and his wife, MEP Klára Dobrev, went straight to the he called it his task to support EU actions against our country. In this spirit, Csaba Molnár, one of the EU politicians of the DK, stated that he feels it is his patriotic duty to fight against European Union funds. His colleague, Attila Ara-Kovács, said that it is impossible to give European Union funds to the Orbán government, because the left would disarm itself by doing so.
This time, the work of the EP representatives of Momentum and their most striking statements were taken in turn. Already in 2020, Anna Donáth had regular consultations with the anti-Hungarian EU Commissioner, Vera Jourová, according to whom "Hungary does not have an illiberal democracy, but a sick democracy".
In addition, the Momentum EP representative was in constant contact with Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield, whom he also only called the new Sargentini. By the way, Donáth was satisfied with his activities against his own country, as he declared that his work was "90 percent successful".
Later, Anna Donáth was a member of the Budapest delegation of the LIBE committee investigating the rule of law in Hungary.
which was led by Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield, considered the new Sargentini, in September 2021, who painted an even more negative picture of the Hungarian rule of law than her predecessor in the "Draft Report on the establishment of a clear danger of a serious violation of the basic values of the Union by Hungary in accordance with Article 7 (1) of the Treaty on European Union on the proposal for a council resolution"
The fact that the left-wing representatives not only assisted the actions of the Brussels institutions against our country, but also acted as active initiators and instigators, is well exemplified by the fact that in September 2022, Anna Donáth accused the European Commission negotiating with the Hungarian government of weakness and complained that it had set conditions that she believed could be met. the board for Hungary.
Donáth's Facebook post is worth quoting: "Today, the European Commission initiated the freezing of HUF 3,000 billion in EU funds for Hungary, but left an escape route for the Hungarian government: if it fulfills its commitments within two months, the punishment will be waived. Let's tell the truth: today's announcement by the European Commission is a delay that looks like a threat, at the end of which the government will receive the EU funds. The Commission's conditions can be met, and as I predicted earlier, the NER system will not be fundamentally shaken. The penalty of 3,000 billion is thus only proof to the media and public opinion that the 12-year-old thefts of the Hungarian government are being taken seriously. The reality is that the EU subsidies will eventually arrive more or less intact once this charade is over. There is no need to panic about the Commission's weakness. After all, the EU will not overthrow the NER for us."
Anna Donáth also lobbied for the issue of domestic education to be linked to the payment of EU funds, despite the fact that the field falls within the jurisdiction of the member states.
In a Facebook post last May, he wrote that he is turning to the European Commission and asking them to include the comprehensive reform of education among the conditions imposed on the Hungarian government related to EU funds.
Three months later, he posted again on this topic: “In case you thought we were tired of resisting, I would like to let you know: Momentum is not giving up. Since the beginning of the summer, we have collected tens of thousands of signatures for my motion sent to the European Commission, in which I ask the Commission to expect a fundamental reform of education from the Hungarian government in exchange for EU funds. The new session in the European Parliament begins in autumn, and the Commission also returns from its summer break. And we will do everything we can to force the government together with Europe to solve the education crisis."
The Momentum EP representative was also at the forefront of the left-wing campaign, which demanded that civil organizations, among other things, receive EU funds instead of the democratically elected government.
Donáth discussed this in a video interview, specifically drawing parallels with Greece, which was previously on the brink of bankruptcy, where the budget and EU payments were planned for a while under the tutelage of the European Commission. The EP representative put it this way: "So the local governments also have a framework that they can draw on, civil organizations can also apply, but these amounts are insignificant compared to what is being discussed now. And we are working to ensure that the Commission finally undertakes to make this happen, because there are no logistical obstacles, as we have already seen an example of this, when Greece was on the verge of bankruptcy, the Commission temporarily took over the economic planning and disbursement of EU funds for Greece .”
Momentum's other EU representative also moved every stone to prevent Hungary from getting the rightful money.
Katalin Cseh even lobbied Ursula von der Leyen to exclude the democratically elected Hungarian government from the distribution of EU funds.
Of course, this meant the freezing of funds, since the funds allocated to the member states for the development of various specialized fields are distributed by the government bodies in each country, these amounts cannot be given to other actors, such as NGOs. The latter can obtain EU funds from a number of other application options.
Katalin Cseh admitted in ATV in September 2022 that the "work" of the temporary MEPs was also needed in the past three years for this European Commission to "put on the gloves" with the Orbán government and she trusts that "this is not the case now you."
The politician also boasted that, among other things, it is thanks to their work that it is not only governments that decide on the distribution of money.
A few days ago, Katalin Cseh enthusiastically welcomed the adoption of the report condemning Hungary and also reported that, on her initiative, the European Parliament called on the European Commission to replace the Hungarian government with the strongest democratic mandate by local governments and an unelected but politically active "civilian" organizations receive EU funds. The politician posted the "victory report" on his social media page, including the following sentences:
With this, the EP became the first EU institution to state: Hungary is no longer a full-fledged democracy.
Although Fidesz representatives and their far-right allies shouted "Hungarophobia" and "witch hunt" at yesterday's debate, the Parliament is still the EU institution that calls the problem by its name. We also voted for the amendment we submitted, which calls on the European Commission to find a way to provide direct financial support to local governments and civil society, and not to punish Hungarians for the illegal behavior of the government.
In September of last year, Katalin Cseh demanded in the ATV that Hungary would receive the rightful EU funds only if conditions were met.
"I'm specifically afraid of that, yes. I would like Hungary to receive the money, but in such a way that the conditions are met. And if this does not happen, then these funds should be paid directly to Hungarian settlements, entrepreneurs and civilians. And the President of the European Commission has a legal duty to uphold the law. Which means that Hungary can only receive the money if the conditions are fully met. And it seems that the Orbán government does not want to fulfill them. He doesn't know."
In a March 2023 Facebook post, the current MEP already boasted that it was thanks to her work that the amount of direct resources in the new seven-year budget had already increased by 40 billion euros.
"In other words, governments do not decide on the distribution of these funds, but local governments, civil organizations, schools and hospitals can apply directly to the Union." Katalin Cseh added that they continue to work to make even more resources directly available, and to inform municipalities, civil organizations, schools, and hospitals about the applications.
Finally, it is worth quoting Miklós Hajnal again, who - although he is not an EU representative - as a member of the Momentum presidency, already boasted last summer that he is in constant consultation with Vera Jourová, the anti-Hungarian EU commissioner mentioned above.
Dajnal said in ATV: the Union has conditions, or it has a condition, or it has a framework. "I think that the Union can be criticized because of how harsh and specific a system of conditions it is. This is exactly why we are in constant consultation, primarily with Anna Donáth - most recently with Vera Jourová - because we want them to see what is happening in Hungary".
The quoted events reinforce the image of the EP representatives of the domestic left that they are not working for the interests of Hungary in Brussels, but rather against their voters, whose votes they won a mandate in the EU parliament.
