In the local government election on June 9th, those who vote by re-registration can vote for the candidates of their place of residence, not their place of residence, and this means that, unlike the parliamentary election, there will be no "traveling votes".

In the parliamentary elections, voters have the opportunity to transfer to any settlement in Hungary in order to vote there. In that case, even though the voter is not voting at his place of residence, he can vote for the candidates of the electoral district of his place of residence, because before the election, his ballot will be delivered to the voting district designated for voting by transfer.

However, in the election of local government representatives and mayors, the voter can only register at his place of residence, and only if he has established his place of residence 30 days before the election - in the case of voting on June 9, by February 11.

Another condition for voting by re-registration in local government elections is that the voter does not cancel the place of residence until the day of the vote, and its validity lasts at least until the day of the election.

The voter must apply until May 31 to be able to exercise his right to vote in the municipality where he resides.

So far, more than 6,000 voters have registered to change their place of residence, in 2019, 29,130 voted in the municipal election and 97,618 in the European Parliament (EP) election.

In the local government election, there are no voting precincts designated for re-registrants as usual in parliamentary and EP elections, as re-registration is only possible in the voting precinct according to the registered place of residence. Because of this

those staying in the hospital, prisoners cannot now exercise their right to vote in the municipal elections

(except for the special case where the voter's place of residence or stay is in the same voting district where the hospital or penitentiary also belongs).

The voter can request a mobile ballot box even in case of re-registration, if he is unable to appear due to his health

in the polling station and requests the mobile ballot box to the registered place of residence or to another address belonging to the same voting district.

The possibility of re-registration is also open to voters of nationalities, with the additional restriction that if the voter re-registers to a settlement where

the given nationality does not have an election at the local or regional level, then it loses the opportunity,

to be able to vote for the candidates of the locality-level or regional-level nationality self-government.

However, in the election of the members of the European Parliament, the voter can transfer to another settlement in Hungary without restriction,

in this case, you can cast your vote in the EP election in the polling station designated for voters with transfer registration, but in this case you will not receive the ballot for the local government election. However, those who have registered for the EP election to another settlement can vote in the local government election in the voting district of their place of residence.

The EP ballots of re-registered voters - whether they have re-registered to their place of residence or to another settlement - do not "travel", as the whole of Hungary forms a constituency in the EP elections, so votes can be counted in the constituency where the voter voted.
