In an interview with the German liberal Die Zeit, Gergely Karácsony stated that "ensuring the rights of asylum seekers is their moral duty" and part of their program, but they will not write this on any poster, because "they cannot win the election with this." In his statement, the Prime Minister candidate of the Gyurcsány show called the economic migrants coming to Europe "asylum seekers".

Gergely Karácsony gave an interview to the German liberal newspaper Die Zeit, which was published online on Sunday.

When the German journalist asked him about immigration policy, Karácsony said that guaranteeing the human rights of asylum seekers in Hungary is the basic program of the six-party opposition alliance. The Prime Minister candidate of the Gyurcsány show stated: This is based on a common consensus, there is no dispute about it.

To this, Die Zeit's journalist asked whether, despite this, the rights of refugees and migrants are really a priority on the left.

And Karácsony replied that I will tell you honestly, we cannot win the election with this topic. He then spoke about how ensuring the rights of asylum seekers is a moral duty and part of our program, but we will not put this on any election poster. Karácsony did not speak at all about the specific rights he would grant to the migrants he called "asylum seekers".

This is not the first time that Karácsony has appeared in the Western media as a great friend of migrants, in May of this year an interview with him was published in the British leftist The Economist, and a picture was attached to it that showed that Karácsony had already crossed the fence on the southern border .
