The Harvest Wreath of the Carpathian Basin was placed in the St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest on Thursday.

On behalf of the organizers of the 11th Hungarian Heritage Award-winning Bread of Hungarians - 15 million wheat grains program, István Jakab, Vice-President of the Parliament, President of the Association of Hungarian Farmers' Unions and Farmers' Cooperatives, and Ildikó Nagyné Legény, deputy mayor of Hajdúnánás, placed the Hungarian togetherness and farmer solidarity folk art work in the basilica.

Ildikó Nagné Legény said: the wreath was made by three women from Hajdúnáná with eight hours of work a day in about a month . The rosary, which will be on display in the church until the end of September after its presentation in the festive procession, was blessed by Bishop Zoltán Horváth, parish priest of the Basilica.

The Míves wheat garland was created from green ears of wheat by the traditional women of Hajdúnánás, following centuries-old traditions. The circularly widening elements of the wreath symbolize Hungary, the Hungarianness of the Carpathian Basin and the world closely related to it.

István Jakab emphasized that the Bread of Hungarians - 15 million grains of wheat program, born from the souls of Hungarian farmers, was able to unite farmers both within the borders of the country and within the borders of the nation, the farming community of the entire Carpathian basin celebrated the wheat collection together in Ópusztaszer, representing the Hungarians living in the diaspora. The harvest wreath tells the future generation to preserve and carry on our traditions, he added.

At the event, the parish priest also received the bread that the organizers of the Magyarok Kenyere program and the Hungarian Bakers' Association jointly provided - just like last year - for the festive bread consecration on August 20.

The wheat donations collected by county and region are milled by nearby mills, and the flour produced in this way ensures the supply of 100,000 Hungarians with a difficult fate every year through beneficiary institutions and children's homes.
