In 2010, the national defense still had 17 reservists, now there are about 11,000 reservists.

The recently established new form of service of the Hungarian Defense Forces is extremely popular: the voluntary military service, the Minister of National Defense pointed out in the current program of the M1 channel on Tuesday evening.

Tibor Benkő recalled: this form of service was announced primarily to those who did not enter higher education during the current admissions process. The application was started when the point limits were announced, and now the planned limit of four hundred has been exceeded, said the minister, but he noted that there are young people who "drop out" for health reasons and are unable to undertake the service.

He also touched on the fact that, in addition to military technical developments, soldiers are at the center of the modernization of the armed forces. Primary goal: attracting young people to both professional and contractual forms of service, in which applicants choose the military as a career. The voluntary reserve force is also important, where they undertake the service either in addition to work or higher education, said the minister, highlighting that: in 2010, the national defense had 17 reserve soldiers, now there are about 11,000 reservists.

The Minister of National Defense was also asked about the evacuation from Afghanistan, in which the Hungarian National Defense is also participating. Tibor Benkő emphasized that while the operation is in progress, they cannot report details, because it could endanger the safety of the soldiers.

At the same time, he assessed: the situation in Kabul is extremely chaotic, many people are trying everything to get to the airport. It can also be seen in the news that violence and the use of weapons also occur. Since August 19, the Hungarian soldiers have been working diligently, night and day, carrying out the evacuation tasks, the minister said, adding that the operation will end when all the people to be evacuated have been brought home.

Tibor Benkő was also asked about his statement the previous day, according to which "the rescue operation of the National Guard holds its own in a European comparison." In this regard, the minister talked about the fact that the preparedness and courage of the Hungarian soldiers, as well as the technical ability at their disposal, also contribute to this, including the planes that - as he said - some people call "government planes". These machines are now rescuing people from Kabul, he noted.

The minister reminded that this weekend, after eight years, Kecskemét will once again have international aviation day. At the International Aviation Day and Military Technology Exhibition, visitors can get to know not only the air force of the Hungarian Defense Forces, but also the land-based technical equipment, Tibor Benkő pointed out.

You can find out more about the programs of the flight day held on Saturday and Sunday at the MH 59 Szentgyörgyi Dezső Air Base in Kecskemét on the repulonap2021.hu page.
