According to Fidesz MEPs, the left-wing majority abuses the concept of media freedom when it elevates some journalists and NGOs above the law, which is why they did not support the European Parliament's report on this topic.

In their opinion, the contents of the report make it impossible to take action in case of defamation or damage to the reputation, and make certain actors of the media and the civil sphere untouchable.

Balázs Hidvéghi, the Fidesz EP representative, emphasized that certain journalists and civil organizations could do practically anything based on the report without any consequences.

"The protection of journalists and NGOs is important, and it must be ensured that they can do their work unhindered, but this does not mean that anyone can be above the law"

said the EP representative. He added that the obvious intention behind the report is to exclude the actors belonging to the Soros network from the scope of the laws.

Ernő Schaller-Baross, the Fidesz EP representative, added: proportional measures that respect the sovereignty of the member states are needed in the field of media freedom.

"It is disappointing that the EU, hiding behind the principle of media freedom, attempts to transform the legal system of the member states in a way that suits its own interests. We do not support centralization efforts"

added the representative.
