Károly Tóth, 56, a political convict who died at the age of ninety-two, was the captain of the Balatonfelvidéki Radetzky Huszár Association.

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Károly Tóth, who was imprisoned for more than ten years as a political convict after 1956, passed away on November 26.

Born in 1929, Károly Tóth lived through World War II at the age of 16 as a conscript soldier. the horrors of World War II, and then returned home to Hungary after escaping from captivity. He was soon forced to emigrate, where he became a member of the Hungarian military resistance operating in the West. Fulfilling his duties, he secretly crossed the border several times in the 1950s, and finally after the fall of the 1956 revolution and freedom struggle, he was taken into the hands of state security. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and was released only after ten and a half years. He was rehabilitated in 1990, and the sentence was overturned.

After the regime change, he became a well-known and beloved figure of Hungarian military traditionalists throughout the country.
the tiring horse rides and exercises on horseback, just like his younger peers, and was given the rank of captain in our tradition-preserving association. In 2014, at the age of 85, he led the Budapest National Vágta as the country's oldest active hussar, also on horseback.

The news of his death shook the Hungarian military tradition-keeping community. His funeral - in addition to the military honors of the Balatonfelvidéki Radetzky Huszár Egyesület - will take place in Hegymagas, after the funeral mass to be held in the Hegymagas church.
