The Council of Europe (CoE) can play an important role in creating peace between the Russian and Ukrainian sides, and also in justice, emphasized Zsolt Németh, head of the delegation of the Parliament in Strasbourg on Monday.

After the debate that opened the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the politician said: ET reacted uniformly and quickly to the outbreak of war, thus standing out among international organizations. Maintaining this unity, he added, is an important condition for achieving our goal, the creation of peace. He emphasized: "the parties must reach a cease-fire agreement as soon as possible and return to the path of diplomacy." The Strasbourg organization also has an important role in terms of justice, so that an appropriate international investigation is launched in connection with the investigation of war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity, he added.

He also emphasized that an important goal of the 46 ET member states is the solidarity shown with the warring Ukraine, of which Hungary also takes part: it is carrying out the most significant humanitarian action in its history, and after Poland, the Hungarian state accepts the most refugees. "Exercising this solidarity will be very necessary in the period to come," he emphasized.
