This year, the Rákóczi Association organized for the first time the public camp entitled Freedom, Community, Action, the Rákóczi Free University above Sátoraljaújhely, at the saddle of Várhegy, at the Rákóczi Hotel, Camp and Event Center.

The program also included a forum discussion entitled The present and future of Transcarpathian Hungarians, which discussed, among other things, Ukraine's candidacy for membership in the European Union and the situation of the Transcarpathian Hungarian education network.

The main patron of the event was Gergely Gulyás, Minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office.

Gergely Gulyás said at the opening:

The Rákóczi Association had an important mission in the past three decades, bringing together and providing a meeting place for the Hungarians of the diaspora, mostly living in Western countries, outside our borders. The minister expressed his hope that the success of the Rákóczi Free University held for the first time this year will motivate the organizers to hold this event in the following years.

Zsolt Hernádi, the president and CEO of MOL, which supports the event, confirmed at the opening that the company believes that it has a mission in the Carpathian Basin.

The idea of ​​the free university was formulated in March of this year, and the concepts of freedom, community and action were chosen as mottos - emphasized Csongor Csáky, the president of the Rákóczi Association.

At the free university, the invited speakers talked with the participants about, among other things, national policy and energy supply issues, the challenges of Hungarian-Romanian economic relations, the relationship between Hungarian historical films and identity, Hungary's branding, the present and future of the Carpathian Basin.
