This is a big failure for the opposition parties as well, since they are interested in deepening the crisis this time, but they cannot forge capital from the current situation either - says political analyst Dániel Deák.

It is now increasingly obvious that the demonstrations in Hungary that started a few weeks ago have died down. For example, two promotions were announced for last Sunday, but both were missed , and although they have been occurring sporadically since then, their effectiveness is decreasing.

Gyurcsányés are being prepared, but we don't know what

However, at the beginning of the demonstrations, the opposition parties and their sympathizers still believed that the protests against the kata and then the utility reduction amendment would gain such strength that the domestic politics would be affected. And there were not a few who already envisioned the fall of Viktor Orbán and a change of government. By the way, Ferenc Gyurcsány also fed this hope, who wrote and writes on his Facebook page almost every day that "We are getting ready" , but he never explained why. DK politicians don't want to reveal this either, they usually smile when journalists ask about it or blurt out the answer.

The involvement of the parties is also quite controversial. Several actions were organized by the Dog Party, for example, but they rather created a picnic atmosphere on the busy bridges, happily drinking and drinking, while scolding the government in vain.

no revolutionary mood developed at all.

"Top dog" Gergő Kovács speaks wittily and tells good jokes, but he is not the type of person who can command crowds to the barricades with his incendiary speeches.

In addition to him, the new president of Momentum also became active. If necessary, he gave a speech, if necessary, he tried to bargain with Minister László Palkovics during dinner, but Ferenc Gelencsér also lacks the charisma with which he can be a decisive figure, the protagonist of such demonstrations.

Jobbikos literacy competition

And the civilians quickly made it clear that the opposition parties should get off their feet, that they do not want to see party logos or flags at their movements. Among them, couriers took the initiative, tried to take themselves seriously, set up rough roadblocks, but they simply lack the routine and experience needed to organize such actions. So far, the scenario has been that the group listened to the speeches that were meant to be incendiary - but did not succeed - and then started wandering around the city center aimlessly. They walked between the bridges, sometimes they went to the Oktogon, in front of the parliament, the headquarters of Fidesz in Lendvay Street, the Carmelite Monastery, and a few other iconic locations chosen at random.

"demonstration" called the Jobbágy Uprising on Monday evening, there were almost more police than demonstrators, at the beginning a crowd of "one and a half bachelor parties", that is, only a few dozen people gathered. Later, when there were perhaps a few hundred of them, they obstructed car traffic and public transport on Margit Bridge and the boulevard. By 9 o'clock in the evening, the meeting announced for Kossuth Square was officially over. For example, Zsolt Bayer put it this way : there are as many people at this left-wing demonstration as at a literacy contest in Jobbik.

The organizers promise that they will not stop trying,

but it is clear that everything depends on the number of participants. Ákos Hadházy sees this clearly, although he seems to be wrong in the final results. On July 15, he posted on his Facebook page that whatever will happen in the next few days, one thing is certain: this is just the beginning. The independent member of parliament also wrote, "On the third day of the protests against the cancellation of the KATA, many people asked what will become of this and where to go next. The answer is simple: the result depends only on how many and how persistently they protest". According to them, neither the protesting civilians nor the opposition parties expecting a domestic political miracle are doing very well right now.

He drowned in farce

In response to our newspaper's question, Dániel Deák believes that it was already apparent at the beginning of the demonstrations that they would not have a serious domestic political impact, since very few people participated in them: even when there were the most people, we can only talk about one or two thousand people. And the action on Monday turned into a farce, they couldn't even close the Margit bridge.

The XXI. The leading analyst of the Század Intézet believes that this is a big failure for the opposition parties as well, since they are interested in deepening the crisis now - just as they were during the rampage of the coronavirus epidemic - but they cannot forge capital from the current situation either.
