The Kossuth Award-winning artist Gyula Szárka has been seen several times at events commemorating our national greats. The musician from the highlands has now made his mark on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Sándor Petőfi, his praise of Petőfi was recently published. music album. There will also be a concert tour, the Petőfi album will be presented in Bratislava on February 7, felvidék.ma asked Gyula Szarka about this.

Why do you love Sándor Petőfi?

I have been a fan of Petőfi for a long time. I already dealt with Petőfi on my Bor és a lyányka record (released in 2007), and even on the Ghymes records. I have now rediscovered him. I immersed myself in reading his poems again, and I could once again establish that he is a brilliant poet, full of dynamism and youth. In addition to love, the desire for freedom and patriotism also appear in his poems. These are still very important values today. I think it is good for us to think in terms of a nation, I do the same, the Hungarian nation has a wonderful culture, and Petőfi is one of its stars.

This also had its antecedents, I have written different pieces of music before, and it will certainly be the same in the future, I am currently working on writing a Passion. In the song "Praise of Petőfi" I also quote from the poet's well-known poems, which I supplemented with my thoughts on what Petőfi means to us.

The chorus of the title song is:

"Your star shines at the top of the sky,
time does not matter long.
Shows the way!
Your courage is the light here in the middle of Europe.”

The following Petőfi poems set to music can be found on your album: The ink bottle, Dreaming, At the end of the village, Megy a juhász a szamár, Csokonai, Treszket a bokor, Pál Pató, Szerelem és bor, A számáros hoz. How were they chosen?

I wanted a summary music album about Petőfi's art. Now the two hundredth anniversary makes this even more timely, last year I was also involved in the 125th anniversary of the birth of Áron Tamási. I am glad that we can remember our national greats, we must preserve their works for the younger generations. In Petőfi's poems, our feelings about life echo, this can also be heard on this album, which also has aspects from the highlands, since the ink bottle commemorates the actor Károly Megyeri from Tótmegyeri, and the album cover is the work of László Pomothy from Galanta.

According to the album cover, your fellow musicians are Bori Varga, András Jász, Péter Jelasity, Péter Farnbauer, Balázs Szokolay Dongó, Attila Varjú. The album presentation was held in Budapest last year at the National Museum, what kind of continuation are you planning?

The next stop will be Bratislava, on Tuesday, February 7th, from 6:00 p.m., we will give a concert at the Ruzsinovi Cultural Center. Entry is free, thanks to the Csemads, everyone is warmly welcomed. During the year, there may be another 10-15 concerts, including in Somorja, Esztergom, Dunaföldvár, Komárom, but other locations are also being organized. I want to take the atmosphere and charm of Petőfi's spirit to as many places as possible.
