Many people gathered in the center of Székelyudvarhely to remember Balázs Orbán on the 194th anniversary of the birth of the greatest Székely man. The speakers emphasized the importance of acquiring and passing on knowledge, which is essential for our survival. At the ceremony, László L. Simon, the director general of the Hungarian National Museum, paid his respects to the memory of Balázs Orbán.
"Every year in Székelyudvarhely, on Balázs Day, we celebrate the anniversary of the birthday of the greatest Székely. We count this day as one of our national holidays and we try to honor the memory of the polymath who left us his encyclopedic work, his idealism and his entire wealth," said Árpád Gálfi, the mayor of Székelyudvarhely, in his celebratory speech, after the joint singing of the Hungarian national anthem.
According to him, Balázs Orbán would not leave without words of warning that, based on the census data collected last year, the number of residents decreased in almost all Székely settlements, as well as the fact that even at the national level, fewer people declared themselves Hungarian compared to the 2011 total. He believes that the biggest Székely would also ask to speak in the Hungarian Parliament and tell us what it means to remain, why the strongest bond is our language, our culture, and our religion.
"As a lover of his native land, a local patriot in the good sense, he would also say that, in addition to standing in the profession, the main guarantee for the survival of peoples is always knowledge, the acquisition and transmission of knowledge in the fields of our history, geography, folk customs, traditions and modern research," he declared. Gálfi.
